An important part of our mission at CARE is to educate young people about the responsible use of credit cards. To help reach youth in new and innovative ways, we partnered with comedic minds at The Theater of Public Policy to create a short educational video about credit cards and minimum payments.
The video puts a funny twist on some of the misconceptions around making minimum payments as one of the characters hosts a celebration after finally paying off his computer that he purchased for $1,000 in 2006. The video emphasizes that even though you are paying the minimum payment every month, you are actually being charged interest by the credit card company. The character later finds out that his credit card company was charging him 15% on his original payment leading him to pay $1,122.89 extra in interest.

The Theater of Public Policy (T2P2) was originally founded in 2011 by Tane Danger and Brandon Boat when they decided to start an improv comedy company focused on bringing hard “thinky” stuff to life with humor. . Both Tane and Brandon have a background in mission driven nonprofit work and decided to combine their past experience with their love of improv and comedy. The idea took off and has produced more than 600 live shows in the past nine years across the country. The team has been commissioned by everyone from Target and General Mills to the Mayo Clinic and American Constitution Society to help make complex issues or debates digestible and fun for audiences. The video sketch for CARE was written and produced by the company’s head writer, Heather Meyer, and features co-founder Tane Danger alongside cast member Denzel Belin.
