Presenter Bios
Hon. Mary Jo Heston, US Bankruptcy Judge Western District of Washington
Judge Heston was appointed to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Washington in 2017. Judge Heston was previously a shareholder at the Seattle law firm of Lane Powell PC from 1993-2017. From 1988 to 1993, she served as the U.S. trustee for Region 18, which takes in Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon and Washington. She was also an adjunct faculty member at Seattle University School of Law. She is a member of ABI’s Veterans and Active Service Members Task Force, chairing the committee on financial literacy for veterans along with CARE.
Tammy Hettinger, Executive Director, CARE
Tammy serves as Executive Director of Credit Abuse Resistance Education or CARE. Founded in 2002, CARE is a national financial literacy education organization with 50 volunteer run chapters in 35 states, D.C. and Puerto Rico. She holds a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Minnesota and a M.S. in Public Policy from University College London in the UK.Tammy recently completed her Certificate in Women’s Leadership from Cornell University.
Hon. Thomas Lynch, US Bankruptcy Judge, Northern District Of Illinois
Judge Lynch was appointed to the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois in January 2013. Before taking the bench, Judge Lynch practiced law in the litigation and bankruptcy departments of several national law firms. He is an adjunct faculty member of the Northwestern University School of Law, teaching there since 1998. Judge Lynch is a co-founder of the Western Division’s Federal Bar Association chapter and of the CARE program for northwestern Illinois. He earned his J.D. from Northwestern, and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Dayton and M.A. from the University of Chicago.
Alex Moglia, Corporate Financial Consultant, Moglia Advisors
Alex has been successful as a Corporate Financial Consultant, M&A advisor, chief restructuring officer, financial advisor, litigation expert witness, state and federal receiver, bankruptcy trustee, liquidating trustee, assignee for the benefit of creditors, and fraud recovery expert. He has a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Chicago Law School and attended the University of Chicago Graduate School of Business. He has a Bachelor of Science of Foreign Service from Georgetown University, Washington, D.C. Alex was born in Argentina, lived in Brazil, and has worked on projects involving the Americas, Europe and Asia.
Hon. Eugene Wedoff (ret), US Bankruptcy Judge, Northern District Of Illinois
Judge Wedoff served as a U.S. Bankruptcy Judge for the Northern District of Illinois in Chicago) from 1987-2015 and as chief judge from 2002-07. He presided over the chapter 11 reorganization of United Air Lines. Judge Wedoff was a member of the AdvisoryCommittee on Bankruptcy Rules from 2004-14 and served as its chair after 2010. Wedoff had been a frequent lecturer and served as a member of the Federal Judicial Center’s Committee on Bankruptcy Judge Education. In 2009, he received the Lawrence P. King Award from the Commercial Law League, Judge Wedoff graduated from the college and law school of the University of Chicago.
