About Us

CARE South Carolina provides an opportunity for students to interact with practicing lawyers, bankruptcy judges, and bankruptcy trustees while learning about the following topics:

  • The benefits of keeping a budget and setting financial goals
  • The consequences of poor financial decisions
  • How to select and pay for college based on prospective income potential and costs of living
  • How to prepare for the future using basic financial planning skills

In our time in bankruptcy court, we have seen the rise of student loan debt and the effect it is having on college graduates. We have great information to share in particular with junior and senior students about what to consider when planning for college and how to pay for college with student loans. We think the reason that our presentations have been so successful is that we are able to engage the students by answering their real-life questions. The materials are presented in a candid and interactive forums, which allows students to feel comfortable asking questions and discussing their personal financial information.

CARE stands for Credit Abuse Resistance Education. CARE is a national non-profit comprised of professionals in bankruptcy, financial services, and business. We volunteer our time to educate young adults and others about the benefits of personal financial management and the consequences of credit abuse. Borrowing from our professional experiences, we tell true stories about financial distress and the impact it can have on one’s life.
